Outplacement for Mid and Lower-Level Staff

Outplacement services from the bottom up because every staff member is valued

In recent years, it has become much more common for outplacement services to be offered throughout the entire workforce of an organisation rather than just being reserved for those in management positions and the C-suite.

No longer the exclusive reserve of the upper echelons, the democratisation of the use of outplacement services is allowing companies to show that they are ethical and fair in how they treat all levels of staff exiting the organisation.

What Kind of Outplacement Services are on Offer?

Outplacement services for mid and lower-level staff have similar features to those offered to senior executives within a company or organisation. Individuals are allocated an outplacement adviser and offered 1:1 assistance and mentorship whilst they take the next step in their work life.

Excellent Consultancy and Guidance

My consultant Matthew was very professional, capable and extremely helpful. I had not applied for jobs for 10 years so presented quite a challenge however he was able to guide me through the process in such a way that it seemed very clear and straight forward.

Professional Support Every Step of the Way

From day 1 working with Bill changed my whole approach to job hunting. From fully understanding my values to re-approaching CV and letter writing Bill was there every step of the way. Not only finding a job, but the right job and in only 7 weeks! Highly recommended.

Outplacement First

Outplacement First, specifically Bill, took me from a little battered and bruised to confident and well equipped to secure a new role with the structure, information and support provided. The virtual careers resource center is very detailed and helpful allowing me to pick up and put it down when time allowed as its bite sized chunks. Bill in particular helped the content come to life with an extremely professional, friendly, supportive and helpful service. I’m pleased to say that I have secured a new role and can’t thank Bill and Outplacement First enough. They are not part of your current/previous employer, trust in their independence and expertise!

The Limitations of Outplacement for Mid and Lower Levels

Mid and lower-level outplacement packages tend to be more limited than those offered to senior staff, executives and directors. One of the key missing elements for these individuals is the features such as the negotiation of contracts, and evaluation of different job offers. Executive packages also tend to last a lot longer than those offered to staff at lower levels within the organisation.

Case Studies and Projects

Outplacement was called on at short notice by an aerospace company to provide a pop-up career centre for 300 staff. We delivered in four days. Our creation included an on-site advice centre with wall posters, relevant vacancies, creating a LinkedIn profile, internet search tips for jobs and how to write a winning CV. We also signposted our online resources plus other links that staff would find useful. Proactive support included group workshops for job searching and self-employment, tailored 1:1 sessions and financial planning advice. These sessions were provided on-site and at our offices over a six-week period. Feedback from staff and HR managers was hugely positive.

Approached by an organisation with a limited budget, Outplacement provided a bespoke package of a 1:1 face-to- face consultation with a CV service and LinkedIn review for each person. The service also included telephone support and online resources and was costed at £250 for each individual. Follow-up revealed that every participant achieved a successful outcome.

Questions-answers about Mid and Lower-Level Outplacement

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will the outplacement service provided for my level in the company be too limited for my needs?

Most individuals find that, with the supplementation of the online resource bank, their outplacement support is perfectly adequate to help them move on with their lives and find a new job. It is common these days for outplacement to be offered to staff at all levels within a business or organisation. Outplacement is flexible and versatile and can be tailored to the requirements of each group.

  • Does outplacement support include help with financial planning?

Being made redundant or moving closer to retirement always raises money worries. Your outplacement specialist is on hand to help with advice on managing income and planning for gaps in work which may be temporary or permanent.
